Ozzy Alvarez

Industrial & CMF Designer

I was raised in Modesto, California by two fearless parents who migrated in pursuit of a better future for our family. I moved to Los Angeles, California in 2008 to pursue my American dream and establish a career as a designer.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Product Design and a Minor in Business from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. My Product Design education included consumer products, mock-ups, graphics design, typography, material futures exploration, research methodologies, trend forecasting, human factors, sustainability, automotive and soft goods Color Material and Finishes (CMF).

As an industry professional, I specialize in CMF for automotive, marine, and consumer products, color concept, design, and strategy, including color theory, material selection, and finishes. My design work shows a collection level of thinking as well as the application of color to the product and attention to detail. I have an understanding of color research and macro trend forecasting, with a current pulse on color trend evolution, color development process, and manufacturing processes across soft goods and hard goods. I'm known to have a keen eye for detail and precision, with a passion for innovative and future-focused CMF applications and emerging design technologies. I’m highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite- Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, 3D software knowledge and rendering skills. I have proven knowledge of manufacturing feasibility and finished goods production lead times, color acuity, knowledge of color theory, and an understanding of diverse technical fibers and materials.

My colleagues would describe me as having excellent verbal, written, and visual communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate CMF concepts and design thinking to cross-functional teams at all levels, and to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. I consistently take the initiative to lead work and contribute ideas with a collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, particularly with product strategy, marketing, industrial design, and engineering. My professional CMF design skills have led me to be part of the CMF professional critique panel, including mentoring and guiding student designers in design and development for the Transporation Design Class: Introduction to Automotive CMF Interiors; student’s work for Mid-Term and Finals at ArtCenter College of Design. With my 10+ years of experience in the work field, I leverage empathy, leadership, team collaboration, time management, organization skills, and project management to reach great design solutions and business profitability.
